Services for children & families

Kaleidoscope Therapies offers a specialist service for children who are adopted, or who are cared for under a Special Guardianship Order (SGO) through the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund, Local Authority Contracts and privately.

We understand that children who are adopted and who are cared for by special guardians can have significant, complex and ongoing difficulties. We know that families often feel alone and need therapy with specialist services that understand the impact of early trauma and neglect as well as the impact that caring for these children can have on the adults around them.

Our therapists have significant experience working with adopted children, looked after children and children on special guardianship orders, as well as working with their parents, carers and networks. We offer assessments and work with parents/carers to develop bespoke care plans that work for your family.

Kaleidoscope Therapies undertake work with adopted and SGO families which is commissioned by the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF). When accessing the ASGSF, SGO and adoptive families are referred by their Local Authority but we are happy to hear from SGO and Adoptive families directly.

Accessing ASGSF



We offer ASGSF Therapeutic Needs Assessments which are led by Dr Mazur. These assessments:

Include an in-depth assessment of the child and family’s needs linked to trauma and attachment.
Consider neurodevelopmental factors as well as the impact of Developmental Trauma.
Involve colleagues from other disciplines where appropriate, working closely with Jigsaw Occupational Therapy.
Use standardised outcome measures, family observations, clinical interviews with parents and children, and information gathering with school
Result in a full report providing a therapeutic support plan including practical strategies for the child and family.



Traciy can offer the following under Adoption Support Fund:

Therapeutic parenting
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) informed work
Theraplay informed dyadic therapy
Psychotherapy (e.g. EMDR and Mentalisation Based Treatment)



Services for Adults

Kaleidoscope also offers specialist services for adults impacted by adoption and Special Guardianship Orders. This service includes birth parents, adopters/special guardians and adults placed for adoption as children.

We understand that separation from a birth family and subsequent permanent placement has far reaching consequences on all involved and have experience working with clients to make sense of these life events, enabling better coping and understanding of these experiences.


